interbreeding black mollies

Question
Hi, I have currently bred a male dalmatian molly with a female black molly. She already had her babies but, a male black molly bred with her after she had her babies and I think she is pregnant now. I need to know for sure if she's pregnant by him or if she's having another litter of fry from her previous pregnancy.

Answer
Hi DJ,
Unfortunately its nearly impossible to know which is the father fish in this situation. Mollies, like many livebearers, do store sperm for up to 3-4 more litters. But we can't say for sure if there is inbreeding. Most likely it did happen.

Inbreeding just this one time won't hurt the babies. Its when repeated inbreedings over the course of years that problems can arise, like weak immune systems and defects.

I think all is well with your Mollies,
I wish you the best and Happy Holidays!
