Fish selection opinion

Hey Nick me and my brother recently set up our 40 gallon tank with a pretty generic filter heater etc..  and we have everything set up correctly we both have had oscars our whole lives in diffrent set ups and have chosen to try a something new for this tank is there a cichlid that is very aggresive colorfull and hardy that you could suggest? thanks for you're time.

There are tons of cichlids, they are the largest freshwater fish category in the world.

Could you at least give me an idea of the kind you would like?

African, Tangiyikan, dwarf, or south american?
