Question
I have some kind of algae?? looks like brown hairlike algae growing on my live plants.seems to be spreading and I am afraid its going to choke my plants. How do I get rid of it?  Or is it even algae?

Answer
Hello,

This sounds like a kind of algae that occurs in planted aquariums when there is too much oxygen in the water. If you use aerators, you should turn them down a little bit. Also, if the output of your filter can be adjusted so that it does not ripple the surface (increasing the amount of oxygen) that will also help. I also recommend supplementing your aquarium with a plant food that will help add a bit more carbon dioxide (CO2) to your water.

I hope this helps.

Stephanie
