Piranha and Lobster BFF?

23 16:24:25

Question
We recently bought a red bellied piranha from our local pet store and he's grown so fast within the past month, mostly due to the fact that he's eaten all the other fish save one ratty gourami in the tank. We didn't really care about the other fish he ate cause' we knew this would happen when we bought him but I still felt like he needed more friends so when I was picking up more feeders at the pet store I saw a freshwater lobster (i don't think it's a real lobster but my receipt listed it as a 'hong kong lobster' but this pet store has a bunch of dults working for it). so when I brought pinchy home to the piranha things seemed fine until my boyfriend noticed little worms crawling all over the lobster. they look like inch worms but much smaller (like maybe centimeter worms haha)and they're clear. I called up the pet store and they told me "well sometime when they have babies they like to hang out on mama's back". yeah. ok. so I guess my question is one, what the heck are these crawlies on my lobster's back and is he safe to go back in the tank, and two, is the piranha going to have any trouble with the new lobster? Cause' right now i love the piranha way more than the lobster, especially if he's going to make my fish sick. thanks a bunch!

Answer
Bianca: I would not keep the lobster and the piranha together... anything is liable to happen including the lobster tanking a nice chunk out of the piranha... if you'd like to get your piranha a friend... get him/her another red bellied piranha... anything else you put in that tank will die... As for the lobsters I can not be certain but I doubt that your lobster has young... its probably a parasite.  You can keep your eye on them and see if they develop into little lobsters... that process should be fairly quick... otherwise I would treat the tank for parasites... dave
