Plant Substrate

Question
I am starting a new aquarium where my plan is to begin with a plant substrate layer, then lay a gravel layer ontop and then put lots of plants in!
I have never done this before but I really want a lush looking aquarium.
My question is, when I eventually add some fish to this aquarium, will I be able to vacuum the substrate? because normally these substrates are cloudy in the water and it would just cloud up. Also, will vacuuming disturb the gravel bed where the plants live?

I will just be putting in a small school of tropical fish, eventually. (once the plants are doing good) and maybe one blue lobster...

Answer
Hi Bernadette;

I've never used the plant substrates so I really can't comment on that. I just use aquarium gravel in my tanks, even with plants.

Be very careful with those lobsters. They eat small fish. At night when the fish are "sleeping" and close to the bottom of the tank, the lobster will go hunting.....yikes!
