Question
Hi Chris,  I have 2-29 gal tanks.  One has been set up for about2.5 months and the other for about a month.  I had all kinds of problems with my first tank, but, I have been learning by doing a lot of reading, asking a lot of questions and going to different sites.  They are both doing fine, now.  Amonia, nitrate and nitrites levels are at 0. My question is when I do a 10-20% water change do I add enough stress coat or amiquel for the 29 gal or just for the amount of new water I am adding.

Also, I just had platty & molly fry. After my momma molly had her babies she died.  Some of the fry were dead, but, I do have 8 that lived and about 14 platty fry.  Could I put all the fry together in one tank? They are 4 days old.  I have a couple more platty's that are ready to have their fry, too.  Could I add them. It is a 5 gal tank.  I know it's a small tank, but, I thought because they are tiny right now it may be ok.

Thanks for your help.

Answer
Hi Toni;

I always add enough water conditioner for the whole tank, even just for partial changes. It gives the fish a full strength dose of stress relief.

The babies should all be fine together. If you get new babies again and older ones are big enough to get newborn babies in their mouth, then you shouldn't mix them. You are right, it will get pretty crowded in there as they grow too. Make very frequent water changes so they grow fast and the babies can go into the big tank again. Breeders change 25% or more every day to grow big healthy baby fish. Also add lots of bushy live plants to hide in. Live plants would be great and the babies can nibble on them. They will love it!

Have fun!
