Answer
Hi Katrina
I don't know what size your tank is, but I hope it's huge! Most of those fish are what's called tank busters and will grow very large.

If their fins are splitting, that's usually a sign of fin/tail rot.  If you're tank is too small, the water conditions in the tank will go poor very quickly.  So you need to stay on top of the water changes to keep the ammonia and nitrites at 0 ppm, and nitrates ideally under 20 ppm.  I usually recommend doing a weekly water change, of about 25% of the water, and vacuuming the gravel well.  But, if you're tank is overstocked, I would do them more frequently like 2 or 3 times a week to keep the water quality good.  Also, try picking up some PimaFix  to add to the water.  It's a good natural remedy for healing certain infections if you catch them early on.

It could also be a sign of the fish picking on each other as well.  But, it'd be the same treatment, increase water changes to keep the water quality good, & add some PimaFix.

If you don't have a large tank, and by large with those fish I'm talking over 150 gallons, I would give serious thought to rehoming some of them or buying a newer larger tank.

Hope that helps, and good luck!
