Plants!

Question
Hey David! Its me again (I had Lucy the Mystery snail, and the peacock eel/betta that killed my guppies). Turns out it was the betta that was killing the guppies. I had another betta in with 6 zebra danios, so I switched the bettas. Tyson (the guppy killer....ended up getting 3 before the switch) is too slow to catch the danios and Gordy (the old and laid-back betta) only seems interested in hanging out in the pirate ship in his new tank (and not the guppies fortunately). Everyone seems very happy now. So thats the update! Now I was wondering if you could reccommend some plants for me. Both tanks have standard lighting.

Tank 1:
20g tall
6 zebra danios
Tyson
1 spotted cory
(thinking about another snail)

Tank 2:
20 gallon hex
3 female guppies
2 albino corys
2 diamond tetras
Gordy
1 peacock eel

Should I plant one tank over another, or are both tanks plant friendly? Once planted, should I add the fizzy Co2 tabs? Also, at Petco, the only healthy looking plants are the ones kept in gel that you rinse off before planting. Are those safe? Any tips?

Thanks for reading!
Emily

Answer
I would do jungle vals,  or acorus as the tall plants in the tank, mid ground I would do anubia maybe with driftwood, and the foreground would use crypto's or dwarf grass, java fern.   Both tanks can be set up about the same... I dont think with the above plants that you need to use CO2.  NEVER buy those plants with the gel... I have had too many customers come to me with dead fish after adding those gelled plants... I am not sure what that gel is... but its not worth the risk.  Try another store for plants until you find what you are looking for... dave
