Question
I have a 100 gallon tank. I have lice all over my tank. I saw that someone had same question, To drain tank and use bleach and water. What do i do with fish ,And will this mess up a acrylic tank. Have treated twice with General cure, Which i was told it would kill anything. Thanks Rick

Answer
Hi Rick,

You can treat the entire tank with an anti-parasite medication to cure your fish. removing all the fish and cleaning the tank will do nothing because the lice (Argulus) is still on the fish.

These medications are available at your local fish store, and include Mardel CopperSafe, Jungle Parasite Clear, Sera Costapur, and various other brands.

Change 30% of the tank's water before adding the medication, and remove any carbon from the filter.

The medications and water changes will not mess up the tank. General Cure is really only effective against bacterial infections, and the name can be misleading. There isn't a medication that will cure everything, and even if there was, then it would only be moderately effective. There are three general disease treatments, which are bacterial, parasitical, and fungal. I recommend always keeping bacterial and parasitical in stock so you don't waste time having to go to the store.

Good Luck, and I hope your fish recover!
