Calico Oranda - Has a purple bulge

Hi, my calico oranda is about 2.5 inches in a 10 gallon tank - upgrading soon. I noticed that on his side - he has developed a purple/pink bulge and I don't know why. I've had the tank for about a month now, he is the only one in it, and I feed it pellets. I would appreciate your help. Thanks

Hi victoria:  a purple, pink bulge... could be a number of things that range from a wound... maybe he ran into something in the tank?... could be the beginning of a disease such as a parasitical infection or perhaps just a parasite such as an anchorworm.... I would suggest you treat the fish with aquarium salt and general cure... if there is no improvement within a few days or the bulge gets worse... I would take him into an aquarium and ask them to look at him.  please keep me posted.... dave
