Cycling spikes

Question
Hi Joe, its me again...I'm into week number two (day 10) of my new tank, i have 6 goldfish, 2 black mollys and one pleco in the tank now...everything was going perfect, and I think still is, but I have another question. My ammonia is spiking now, which I am pretty sure is a good sign that my tank is cycling properly, but I have become pretty attached to my fishies! and don't want them to die during these spikes. My ammonia has been about .75 for two days now, which started a day after my 25% water change?? I added some ammo lock...I use the API line of products...my fish do not seem to be in the least bit stressed at all, which is great! :-) no excellerated respiration, no gasping at the top...nothing they are all flying around the tank like happy little fishies, even my two mollys, that hid in the corner for the first 2 days I had them, are swimming all over...So my question is this...what do I need to do to keep them happy little fishies during these spikes in my cycling process??? Thanks again!

Answer
HiYa!

Ok I think you may have meant this question for one of the other experts but I'm gonna put my 2 cents worth in anyway.

Ammo Lock, neutralise's Ammonia, so it makes it non toxic to your fish but it doesn't take it out of your tank. Ammo Lock should only be used in an emergency and definitely NOT during the cycling of your tank. Ammo Lock will stop your ammonia levels turning into nitrites which of course will disrupt your cycling process. You need to stop using Ammo Lock and not add anymore into your tank if you want your cycling process to continue and you still may have problems now you have already added some.

Cheers! Rach
