lighting good for live plants

Question
I purchased a "Fluorescent double bright reflector light" for my 55 gallon tank in order to save the demise of my numerous live plants.

The bulbs are "Eclipse Natural Daylight F40T10" with wattage of 40 watts each. The packaging states that they "enhance the natural color of fish, live plants, coral and rock" ... but will they help the plants grow? Should I purchase other bulbs for this purpose?

Answer
Hello,

The only lights that help plants grow are UV lights. UV light is the kind that the sun gives off, and plants need this in order to properly photosynthesize. I am not sure if your specific kind of bulb has UV rays or not, but if it did I am sure it would state it clearly on the box.

I hope this helps.

Stephanie
