Guaramis

Question
I recently purchased 2 guarami's from a local pet store.  The larger of the 2(a blue) showed a lot of aggression in my tank towards some of my other fish(dalmtion molly's, silvertip shark, and an african dwarf frog). The result was that after coming home from a 3 day vacation(we had a pet sitter), the frog and the 2 molly's and 1 of my sharks were very beat up and died a the next day.  We have moved the blue to a seperate aquarium that has goldfish in it and he is acting normal now, but I was told that guarami's were friendly top water fish. Any idea's about the aggression? The other guarami(a gold) is very nice and gets along with all the other fish just fine.
Thank you for your time,
Carrie

Answer
Dear Carrie,
That really is bizarre how your Blue Gourami attacked the other fish as he did. I've never had any trouble from Blue gouramis with other species of fish. The only problems i've had were blue gouramis fighting with each-other (their own species). The only thoughts I have is perhaps he is being very territorial or maybe the aquarium doesn't provide enough space for him to call his own? This is just a thought.

I guess it's good that your Gold Gourami is doing fine with the others.

But it really is likely that your Blue gourami's aggressive is territory related.

I really hope this helps! If you have anymore trouble, feel free to write!

Best wishes,
Karen~
