red hair like disease?

Question
Hi, i have a 55 gallon tank, thats only been up for a few months, i have 2 large filters, sponge filter, proper lighting and airstones going on within this tank. i bought 5 small blue rams one week, and all of them died but 1, which i removed and stuck her into a 10 gallon hospital tank. (i introduced them into the tank with the drip method) so after my fish  stopped dieing in my 55 (i have an angel, 2 opaline gourami's, 7 cherry barbs,7 cardinals, 5 black neons, 3 female swordtails, a pleco, and a few male and female guppies) i put her back into the 55. a few weeks later when i took a close look at her, i noticed a weird set of red like hair coming out of her anus. To give you a visual it kinda looks like the little hairs on a marijuana plant. any ways. i looked at all my other fish to see if they had this going on too, and it IS. it looks like all of my fish have it, but its going on worse in the little blue ram. It seems to be making my blue rams anal area wider, and eating away at it slowly from the outside. it protrudes from their anus's. i cant notice it in any of my cherry's, neons, gourami's and the pleco.(who is about 6").

I keep the Temp at 78-80 degrees.
the filters are at around than half speed.
I do 25-30% h2O changes about once a week.
I feed them twice a twice a day, and every other day i give them frozen brine shrimp.(Its like crack to them)
I give them about 8-9 hours of sleep.
ive also started giving them this Stress coat stuff when i change their water, along with aquarium salt.

Before this illness, the 55 gallon tank had a minor case of ick, which i treated for the full dosage, while keeping the temp at about 82-84 degrees, and it cleared up nicely.

What do they have, and what could i do for them?

If they dont make it, its not the end of the world, ill just give it a deeeeep clean and buy some discus fish.

Answer
Hi Brian
I was reading your question in our question pool.  And, from what you described, sounds like they have camallanus worms.  Knock on wood, I've never dealt with it, but here's some links an acquaintence sent me with some photos and treatments:

Like I said, I'm not personally familiar with this, but it's my understanding it's difficult to treat, though not impossible.  I recall reading somewhere that sometimes the worms can be killed inside the fish, but they're too large for the fish to pass out, thus causing an internal blockage, and killing the fish.

Good luck!
