eye problem

I have a male cockatiel with a very sore eye, the surround of the eye is a brownish colour and swolen he seems to be fine in all other ways and is eating well, he is in an aviary with 11 other cockatiels they have a very good diet of seeds, fruit, vege and greens the aviary is 6 metres by 1.5 mtrs so pleanty of room for flight, he is prob about 10 or 11 years old and has never been ill.  Can you please tell me what to do, I did try bathing it with a saline solution but it didnt seem to help for more that a few hours....Leone

It may seem he might have a small infection. The only thing that could cure such a thing is to take him to an avian vet or try calling your nearby vet, maybe they could give you some sort of medication or eye drop for him.

You can also try separating him from all the other cockatiels for a while, and always make sure his surroundings are as clean as possible.
