Hi Roger

We picked up a baby pigeon, approx 1 day old, no feathers only straw lines, we have looked after him for a week know. Have brought up a parrot from a baby, and farmed poultry from 1 day old chicks, so weve had some training. Anyway the little pigeon is very alive and demanding on the positive side, but i had checked him out 2 days ago for any sign of injury from maybe falling out the nest and there were no signs at all. But today (7days old) he has swelling on his right hip on his leg join approx 10mm diameter. It stops his back wing from sitting even with the other, and i notice he tends to rotate clockwise 90% of the time during feeding. I tested him by touching his left side to attract him to move anti clockwise and he did with no problem. I cant speak for the baby, but she doesnt seem to be in pain from it. The swelling basically just appeared today, and it feels like a blister, full of liquid. Should i take her to a Vet or just see how she is tomorrow? Or do you have any experienced with this sort of situation. Attached is a picture i took, its in pdf format if you cant open it ill try to convert picture. Let me know please. Any help i will truly appreciate it.

Answer
I can't diagnose the swelling over the web like a vet could in person, but it could be a ruptured abdominal air sac protruding into the skin or infected feather follicles. You might just call the vet and ask if you should drain it or come in for a check up. Thanks for your concern.
