Question
Where do birds disappear to when they die?
I am living in Johannesburg, South Africa, where we have a wide-spread variety of a large wild Ibis bird (here called Hadida)-- but I have never seen a dead one, and no-one can tell me where they go to die.

Answer
Birds don't go to any special place to die. Since they have little fat, thin skin, and light bones, they decompose rapidly. If a larger scavenger like a dog or cat or hyena or vulture or whatever doesn't get all of it, insects and bacteria go to work quickly on birds and, depending on the environmental conditions, decompose in only a few days.
