Question
Broken Egg
Broken Egg
QUESTION: I understand lovebirds are not what u have experience in, but maybe you can help me. My lovebirds had 4 eggs, two of them already hatched, but one of the eggs is broken, I don't know whether to leave it there or remove it from the nest. Any help will be appreciated. I will attach a photo so u can see the broken egg. Thanks!

ANSWER: Hello,
Thank you for the picture.

From the looks of it, this egg is badly cracked. I had a dove that hatched from a broken egg before and he was born with some sort of internal tumor....a week before a year later, he died.

I would crack and get rid of this egg. This is a huge crack, and maybe the chick is already dead, but if this egg does hatch, I'm sure it will be born with some sort of problem. Not only will it prevent you from spending hundreds of dollars on vet bills, but prevent a disabled chick from being born, (which would stink for this chick.)

I would not let this egg hatch.

Hope this helps,
Carly ;)

Good luck!

QUESTION: OMG!OMG! I went to check the egg to throw it out like u advised me and it has a hole and I could see the babys beak..I was so nervous but I think it even moved..what do I do, what do I do?? Thanks a million!

ANSWER: OMG!

At a time like this, let it hatch!

Or..smash it as hard as you can on something hard. But that would be VERY mean.

Just let it hatch! I would love to see pictures if you have any!

QUESTION: OK..so I took matters into my own hands today..I decided to remove the egg because I was afraid she might be dead and that could cause something to the others, but I checked the egg and she was still alive. I tried helping her out of the egg, What a mission!! because the part that was smashed was all stuck on her skin, and some of it still is..I just don't know now whether to hand feed myself, or to put her back into  the nest with the other, I'm afraid she might carry some sort of bacteria and affect the others...She is pooped twice since she is out of the egg, is that good? Anyways? here are some pics I took right now. The littlest bird I've hand fed was my macaw..but she was 3 weeks old...what do I feed a baby this small? the same formula??

Answer
Hello,
I looked at all the pics, just put the baby back in with the others asap!

The baby looks fine from what I can see! ;) When you put the baby back though, make sure the parents aren't looking.
