Question
I found three baby birds in a pile of leaves after a bush had been torn out. They seem ok but are very hungry. I think they may be cardinals, but they have really long big feet and big beacks with a white edge. I need to know what the best thing to feed them, please help I don't want them to die.I have given them comercial food that you add water to by use of syringe. I don't know hat they are so I don't know about what ther exact breed is. Please help. I've raised a bird before but i knew its species. I intend to realease them once they can fly and eat on there own.

Answer
Hi, Lissa.  Thanks for posting.

I can't help much if I don't know the bird species.  You could try feeding insects, worms, etc.  Sometimes handfeeding formula for parrots works, but sometimes it doesn't.  Your best bet would be to take these babies to a local humane society or fish and wildlife service or wildlife rehabilitation center (local state park) to see if they can determine the species and what to feed them.

You might try watching around your home to see the types of wild birds in your area in hopes of determining the species.  Then look the species up on the internet to see what types of food to offer them.
