Question
I am a new bird owner with lineolated parakeet. Kind of dry air and I don't know if I need to get a humidifier for the bird's room or not. If so, how humid should it be for the bird? I know linnies are from jungle so I am guessing more humid than for budgie, from desert. Not a lot of linnie info out there, however! Hope you can help, thanks, Jackie

Answer
Hi Jackie,

Too low of humidity (for any bird) can cause their skin to become dry and can even lead to plucking. Misting your bird frequently (or taking him in the shower with you for bath time) is a great way to make sure your bird's skin stays nice and hydrated.

It is generally recommended to bath birds at least once a week, but if you like in a dry area, you might want to at least mist your birds a little every day.

I hope this helps.

Before investing in a humidifier though, you might want to chat with your avian vet first to see if it is necessary.
