Question
My budgie has layed 7 eggs but this is the first time that we've had eggs, yesterday the first egg hatched, and i wanted to know how i could care for the baby budgies, however i've read that its the mum and dad that raises the babies, the father flew away a week ago, will this have any effect on how to raise the babies?

Answer
Hi Sabeena,

Yes, the father does help care for the babies- so don't be suprised if they don't all make it. 7 chicks would be a lot of any clutch, but especially for a "single mom."

Unless you learn how to hand-feed babies (which can be dangerous and life-threatening if done improperly)... there is really nothing you can do for the babies, but to hope that mom cares for them well.

Good Luck- and I hope that the babies all turn out healthy and happy.

If you ever have any concerns about the health of the babies or mom, I would recommend contacting an avian vet asap.

Again, I hope everything goes smoothly.
