Parakeet fell in cooking oil

22 17:38:59

Question
I was recently trying to put my parakeet in a new cage and he got away and ended up landing in a pan of cold cooking oil. Because he got so much oil on him, I dipped him in dawn and warm water and rinsed him, I now have him next to a lamp so he can dry off. If he still looks oily in the morning, what do you suggest, should I take him to the vet?

Answer
Anastasia,

Thank God it was cold oil!

You did the right thing.  Cooking oil is not toxic, so you don't need to take him to the vet.  Does he accept misting?  If so, put a drop of Dawn in a pint of warm water and mist him daily, then put him in a warm place to dry.  It will be good for his feathers!

Good luck,

Cindy
