How do u tame a brd

Dear Tara,
You have the same name as my sister. I have a bird and his
name is hippie and i wondered how i could tame him to sit on
my hand and not fly away.He was born in 2003 and i got him in
November 2004 and he is a parakeet hippie is very scared and i
have no idea how to tame him?

Hello Jazz and thanks for your questions.

Seeing as hes fairly old this may and may not work, if you look around you will find taming info but I have never had and luck with the hands off treats through bars method heres what I do I it worked twice with older birds....

Go get his wings clipped so he cant fly away, take him out in a light towel by force several times a day, take him away from his cage to a quite small room like a bathroom(if he sees his cage he will try to get back to it) sit him on yuor hand when you take him out of teh twoel, talk to him lightly and you can offer a spray millet and try to stroke him, do this three times minamium for ten minitures minimum each day and he should be hand tamed within a week or two, good luck, ~Tara
