love bird sitting on eggs

Question
thanks for the advise. I was worried about the hut being so high. they are in a large flight cage. I would love to handfeed the baby so it would be tame as the other 2 won't let me touch them.  One was supposed to have been handfed when I got her but she never would let me take her out without acting like she was scared to death.  I'll get back with you a little later about the handfeeding.  thanks so much for all your help.

Well never mind taking out the hut. I went in this morning to clean their cage and thought this was enough and unhooked it to take it our.  I ran the bird out of it and good thing I looked before I dumped it.  There is 1 little baby bird in there.  It must have just hatched it's pink with no feathers.  Do I need to put any special food or anything in the cage?

-----Question-----
I have 2 lovebirds. One started laying eggs in November. I waited until I thought they should have hatched and nothing happened so I dumped them. She laid more and has been sitting on them since Christmas. It's pretty obvious that they aren't going to hatch but I read that if she keeps laying eggs it's bad for her. The other bird gets really aggressive with her when she gets out of the little tent where she laid the eggs. Should I just take the whole tent out?  They always slept in it together.

Humm sounds like you either have two hens or one of the pair is infertile. Take away the sleeping hut and they should stop laying eggs.

Oh my lol, Congrats on the chick! or as I call baby birds conrats on the Chicken lol Intresting how lovebirds will always finda  way to breed no matter what. Basicly just add more fresh foods to the diet fruits and veggies and keep a new cuttle bone handy and mineral block, if possible thou do lower the hut closer to the cage floor if its high in the cage as you wouldnt want eggs and chicks falling out. In about 10/14 days you can remove the chick for handfeeding if you do your research now you will be perpared for it...this way the chick is aloving pet and easier to find a home for or much more friendly with its handfeeder and therefore a great pet for you, i can help with handfeeding information just let me know if your intrested and Best of luck with the ltitle chickadee they are sortof funny looking at this age but grow into the most beautiful of birds!

Answer
Your very welcome, I would try lower the hut indeffinitly or place thick towels on the cage floor as to make a soft landing if the nest should fall or the chicks happen to fall out, Handfed birds a great pets if they are handled alot whiel being handfed(via the breeder) and are not left sitting in petshop cages for month becoming untame and flightly waiting for a new home, in my experiance most petstore lovebirds that are handfed are really quite nasty when compaiered to a good breeders babies. You wouldnt realyl want to take the chick and handfeed it until its 10-14 days old anway so if you can make sure the chick stays safetly in the nest during this time alls well then you must distract the parents with some sprayed millet or a favorite food or net them in a flight cage bird net then remove the chick which may be more then one by this time...all the eggs hatch on different dates two days apart like they are laid. best of luck with this and do ask for handfeeding information prior to the ten day old mark!
