Question
hi i have a latino cockatiel that is now 4 weeks old she was fine last night butearly this morning all my birds went crazy with night fright and i turned the light on to sooth them and calm them done unfortunely after i got them finall settled down i went back to bed and this morning i noticed the latino was limping on her left foot i checked it and it was broken  i was so devastated so i washed it off and let it dry and i set the leg and i now have her in a warm area all by herself with bedding  im wanting to know if the foot will heal in 6 weeks or will she never be able to use this leg of hers again please help me thank you

Answer
Deborah,

If she actually broke the leg, she would not have been able to put any weight on it at all...is that the case?  You said you set it, but did you splint it?  If so, you have done all you can by yourself, and without bringing the baby to an avian vet for follow-up, you will not know if it was enough.  Infection could always set in, which is what I would be most worried about.

So, my answer is, I'd bring her to an avian vet and get his/her professional opinion.

Good luck,

Cindy
