QuestionHi - A small bird made a nest under my carport and hatched babies. She cared for them for the first few days but now has left the nest. It's been 2 days now and the babies are dying. I usually think it's better to leave nature alone. Maybe she left them for a reason. At least one is still alive and every time I go look it is opening its mouth for food. Should I try to feed it or let nature take its course? Thanks.
AnswerIf you are sure the mother left them (maybe she was killed?), then call your local wildlife rehab center for help and advice. I usually advise people to let nature take its course, but since it is apparent the birds will die without intervention, you might want to intervene. Meanwhile, go to www.ornithology.com/rehab for links on advice for taking care of baby birds. Thanks for caring.
