Cockatiel is limping

Question
I recently left for a night, and left the care of my cockatiel to my boyfriend and friend who were at my home. I came home to find that my cockatiel is limping, he will not apply pressure to his foot and is holding on to the cage for balance. He is still eating and drinking and chirping so he seems other wise healthy. I cannot at the moment take him to an avain vet. Would it be okay to put a cotton ball under his foot and tie it there with a gauze, as a make shift cast for now?

I see no injuries on him so I don't know what could have happened.

Thanks for your help

Answer
Natasha,

Does your boyfriend know what happened?  It seems strange that all of a sudden he would not be able to walk on a foot that was healthy the day before.

Is the foot limp (hanging there looking like it cannot grip a thing)?  Can you look at the bottom of the foot and see if there are any lesions?

Thanks,

Cindy
