sick parakeet?

My 1-1/2 year old male parakeet used to be very active and vocal.  He now spends most of his time with his head hanging down and not vocal at all.  Lately he's been breathing very heavy.  His female partner is fine and seems to be trying to perk him up.  Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Well, if you parakeet has experienced a great change in it's life, this could cause it. It could be suffering from depression, or it could be ill. Here is a good website: http://www.pet-parrots.com/Parakeets/parakeet-illnesses.html
