Question
Our bird developed bare patches on her shoulders equally sized and on her chest. After a couple of weeks we are now treating it for mite with spray. The chest is improving but the shoulders are still bare. How long do you think we should spray her for. I have done every day now for 4 days.

Answer
Hello Eunice and thank you for your post.
First, are you sure that she has mites?  She needs to be seen by a Certified Avian or Exotic Animal Vet to determine this.  This might be a case of self mutilation isntead of a case of mites.
Try misting her with some warm water several times a day.  Her skin is irritated and the water will be soothing to her.  There is really no set time limit as to how fast her feathers will grow back.  I had a cockatiel that was a self mutilator until I got him, and it took several months for his feathers to grow back.
As I've stated before, take her in to be checked for mites.  The test is inexpensive and it is painless for the bird.  Your Avian Vet will be able to tell you how long to use the spray if it is needed(usually 7-10 days is what is recommended).

Good luck and God Bless.
