hi i have a two cockatiels male and a female i love them to dearly there just like apart for the family and spoild too lol this is the first time she laid eggs not sure how old she is but i had her for 8 years first my cockatiel laid eggs and they both sit on them but sometimes they leave them for a while then or for about a day then she go back I pulled them out to see if they had red veins in the egg they was 5 days old there was a air pocket and it looked like the was veins and a little light dark spot in the eggs and they were cold and I touched them once before and they were warm does it matter if they sit on them all the time. What can we do. We would like to save them if we could. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks Tammy
-----Answer-----
Hello Tammy and thank you for your post.
I am hoping that I get this right, you've had your female cockatiel for 8 years, and this is the first clutch of eggs that she had laid.  Both the male and the female sat on the eggs, but then left them for a day and then the female went back to them.  You pulled one to see if it was fertile, and it looked like it was, but it was cold.
If I am correct, I would suggest that you leave the eggs in the nest for another week or so, then check it again.  If it doesn't look any different, then it will probably not hatch and it would be safe to discard the eggs.  If it looks like the baby inside has gotten any bigger, then it is still alive and will probably hatch in a few weeks.
If the female has quit sitting on it all together, then wither it was not fertile, or the baby inside has died.  If this is the case, then it would be safe to pull the eggs and discard them.
I have a 10 year old female that will sit on her fertile eggs until they're just about ready to hatch (within a week of when they're supposed to), then she will quit sitting on them altogether.
I know that it can get frustrating, but birds have keen instincts, and they know if there is something wrong with the eggs.
You can try pulling the eggs, and keeping them warm yourself, but there is no guarantee that they will hatch until they actually do.

I hope this helps at least a little bit.

Good luck and God Bless.

Answer
Hi Tammy.
You could try wrapping the eggs in a towel and put them on a heating pad that is set on the lowest setting, but make sure that you turn the eggs often so that you don't cook one side of the eggs.

Good luck on your venture.

God Bless.
