Question about ring neck doves

Question
Hello there, this is Kim and Gerald Carter. We're blind individuals living in Sacramento California. We have a ring neck male dove, and would like some information about where they come from. Also, we've experienced whereby at night, he koos when our finch and parakeet is sleeping. We try covering him, but he still koos while he's covered up. Even when I've turned out the light when I'm going to bed, he sometimes koos. Could you explain why doves do that and if its normal for them to do that? I find it kind of strange that while our other birds are sleeping, he's still awake. We don't quite understand. Hope this isn't too much to ask at once, but if you could help us, we'd appreciate it very much. Thanks very much.

Answer
Hello,

The Ringneck Dove species is kept only in captivity but is thought to descend from the African Ring Dove. The Ringneck Dove is easily the most commonly kept dove in captivity. This domesticated bird (Streptopelia risoria) descends from the African Ring Dove (Streptopelia roseogrisea). This bird is about 12" from tail to head.

Ringneck Doves, will coo, all the time. And there is no way to stop it. The only thing I can advise you to do it to keep the 2 cages away from eachtother.
