A friend?

Question
QUESTION: I sent a question a little while back but know I am reconsidering getting a second cockatiel, I have a very close bond with my male tiel even though he can often be grumpy and bite hard... and almost any one I ask is saying that if I get a friend for him whether it be male or female, I will loose our bond.

Not only that but what if I was to want another bird in the future, would he become jealous and 'forget' me.

Have you had experience/s like this and what did you do, how was the outcome?

thanks for any help.

ANSWER: Hello....well if  your bir is attached to you and is a good pet dont get another one I made this mistake with bugies cocktiels and lovebirds they turn nasty its just the way it goes...they forget about you and one day your taking out there dishes and they bite you... if you can let him out morning and evening and leave him with a big cage and lots of interesting toys during the day plus leave a radio on low in the same room as his cage he needs no friend but you.

The best pet bird is the only bird in the home.

QUESTION: Hi again and thanks for your reply,

Umm I think I accidently wrote this in the thanks, sorry lol. I completely understand what you have said and I probably intend to now keep him as a single bird, although I love animals and in the near/far future I would like to get another/more birds, would this be ok?

Thank you for your help, its nice to finally get some first hand answers :)

Answer
Hello....if you get a bird of a different type and it has its own cage and it is bought as a handfed just weaned baby from a breeder you will then have two tame loving birds...its just when you keep two budgies, cockatiels/lovebirds or more together they go untame...if you want another bird later on maybe try one lovebird or one budgie or senegal.
