Question
I found a lovebird with its partner in the yard. It seems that they were owned and were dumped. I was able to save one of them and not the other. For a while it would not let me touch it and cried for the other to come back. I would bring it in at night cover its cage and it would be perfectly quiet. In the morning I would take it to the patio and let it out. It took some time, but eventually it came to me and would play with me, but I found that I was not able to do this all the time; so, I bought it a friend. This new bird hates me and I did the same thing with it. I let it out to walk around on the patio, its wings are clipped so that's a good thing, but it absolutely hates me. The lovebird I found no-longer plays with me the way it used to and it seem to trust me as much as it used to. occasionally it will will let me hold it, but the other only likes the being with the the found bird. I have tried to like it, but its been so long that my feelings are starting to change and I am starting to hate it just as much as it hates me. Although, I respect it and its space. I find that I don't want to let it out of its cage to wonder the patio anymore, because its so hard to get it back in the cage. What Do I do. Should I find a New Owner for these Birds? I feel that if I take the New one away the other would be heart broken. Please help me I'm in Lovebird Hell.

Answer
Birds are no little babies, they are wild animals.
They need to fly and find an other bird as a mate. After the first one died the other did all he or she could do to find another one. And that as loud as possible.

Please do not clip wings. It is illegal in some countries and if you do it its not only the bird that will hate you, but also the birdkeepers in your area. If you are known as a person that clips wings, it will be very hard to find new owners or even a new mate for your lovebird.

Please do not try to tame lovebirds. Keep them in an aviary. They are clever and try to escape and defend themselves.

And yes they can make your live a living hell. They are and will always be parrots.

If you can not handle them or give them a good home, then there are shelters or bird parks that will take parrots with problem behavior.
