Hello maggie, my name is julie and my flock consists of 4 Cockatiels, 1 masked lovebird and 1 Sun Conure. All are handreared my myself and are very tame and well trained. We have recently sold our busines bought a 4x4 and a caravan and are planning to travel around Australia. We have been recently told by friends that we may need to obtain a permit for some states to take our flock with us? is this the case and if so where do we go to obtain the necessary paperwork. just for your info our flock have travelled in short trips with us and have enjoyed the experience. We are very well set up and they want for nothing.
Hope you can help us

Answer
Hi Julie,

I don't know what the regulations are like in Australia. I know that in the United States, it is recommended to have the birds checked out by a vet to confirm their health, before traveling with them. I've never had a problem crossing borders between California and neighboring states with my conure and Pionus. However, I usually didn't announce them to any forms of border control either. Cockatiels, lovebirds and conures are legal in all 50 states, but some birds (like Quakers) are not... so that is something you have to consider. But again, in Australia I am not sure of their regulations. I would recommend contacting your local animal control facility and requesting this information.

I hope this helps.
