Answer
Hello Becca,

All new birds need to have a health check by an avian veterinarian. It is never worth the risk to skip this step. A bird that is fluffed throughout the day is exhibiting symptoms of an illness. Please make an appointment with an avian veterinarian.

Unless your pet store has an avian veterinarian in their employ that you speak directly to please take the advice of an avian veterinarian above that of a pet store employee. I do not know the reputation of your pet store, however if they try to sell you medication over the counter please do not take such advice and go to your avian veterinarian. Giving your bird medication without the diagnosis and treatment prescribed by an avian veterinarian can cause more harm to your bird.

My website has links to resources on parrot care. I encourage you to take some time to learn all you can about your new birds care.
