Question
hi maggie,
good day, i've recieve your email last week, thanks for the knowledge you've share with me.. theres one thing though, unfortunately DNA is not available here in our community right now... is there another way to determine the female from the male..?
by the way, what vitamins and menirals would you recommend for my budgies and african lovebirds..? surely theres a lot of vitamis and minerals out there but base on your experience what is the best vitamins or shall i say the effect one..?
thanks, GOD BLESS YOU...

Answer
If you feel that your bird need vitamin supplements, talk with an avian vet first. Vitmain supplements in the water can discolor/distaste the water (causing some picking birds not to drink it).  It also promotes bacteria grown and needs to be changed twice a day (or at the very, very least... every 24 hours).

A cuttlebone is a source of calcium for birds that my vet recommends. You can also get a mineral block for your bird.

But, it is better to feed a good, varied (high quality) diet than to feed a bad one. (a bad diet would be a diet consisting of all, or primarily, seeds).

I hope this helps.
