Good tips needed for baby cockateils

Question
Hi there.Just found this website and have spent most of the day reading everything! Really wonderful site, friendly and knowledgeable - am grateful.
My male & female cockateils are first time parents. Baby number one hatched last night and there are 7 other eggs also - though being a first time mum, she kinda' took a while to decide what she was going to do with them - but obviously - she has an inkling, as this first 'little squeaker' is here.
I would just like to know what I should expect during babies first few weeks - and what I need to pay attention to. I'm a first time 'nana', but have the best of intentions and am willing to follow your directions!  :-)
Depending on how many hatch, I would like to get them used to people early on. I can keep one or two - but not 8! So I figure, I should get in there early to introduce myself - but not too sure when - or whether mum & dad will be 'emotionally' damaged if I take one or a couple of their babies later on?
Maybe you would be able to steer me in the right direction, as I would like to remain on 'speaking terms' with them both - though she hasn't wanted much to do with me of late! :-) Too be expected really.
Anyway, thanks so much in advance and I look forward to a possible reply.
Take care & all the best

Answer
Hello Cherie.  Thank you for your post.
You can start getting them used to being handled in a couple of weeks, but if "Mom" isn't feeding them, then you'll have to hand feed them.
One of the experts on this site has a wonderful and informational site.  I am sending you the link for it in this email.
It is very well put together, and I am learning a lot from it.
You do want to introduce yourself to your "Grandbirdies" early.  This way they will learn to trust people and they'll enjoy being handled.
