Question
Coco and Limey are  my beautiful 1 year old lovebirds and are great parents. This is their first clutch. Their 2 babies are 7 weeks old this week.
I have found new homes for both next week. We bought another cage and separated them today in preparation. Now I am having second thoughts about separating them. I hope it
is not too soon. Up till today they were eating on their
own and from time to time Coco (the male) would feed them.
But, I read if they are no longer begging him, that they
would be okay to leave the parents.
I know by their actions they are stressed, I did put in
some millet and they ate it and gave them fresh food
tonight, shredded wheat and apples, of which they have not
touched. They are very healthy and I don't want anything
to go wrong. Help!

Answer
Hello Debbie and thank you for your post.
Your babies are going to be stressed from being seperated from their parents.
Instead of giving them Shredded Wheat, try giving them some warm, cooked oatmeal and see if they will eat that.  This might be easier for them to eat and it is easy to digest.
It is possible that it is too soon to seperate the babies.  I would give it a little more before seperating them (maybe another week) to be sure that they are going to continue eating on their own.

Please keep me updated.

Good luck and God Bless.
