budgies dont stop chirping

Question
I know you don't deal with budgies, but you were the only one available and I would appreciate any information you may have.

I bought two budgies a week ago. They were both in a cage together at the pet store, but I don't know how long. They are just young and have not formed their colors yet to know what sex they are. Couple of questions:

1. Sometimes they will sit by each other and be fine, then other times I see them pecking at each other (which seems like fighting). Are they?

2.They won't stop chirping! I had budgies before when I was younger and we could cover them when they were being loud, but these guys seem to get louder when they are covered.

3.Another type of chirping question: I can't really explain the sound but it sounds almost like they're screaming. It is a different sound than the regular chirping. They do this when they are away from each other, or by each other, so I don't know if they are fighting or not. Today they made the noise though and one of them was flapping its wings wildly at the other one

thank you.

Answer
Sasha,

Thanks for understanding that I'm not a budgie expert, so I may not be able to give you a very good answer to your questions, but I will try.

Birds, like people, have personalities.  Sometimes they get along, and sometimes they don't.  Chances are they are fine unless you see them biting each other and drawing blood.

Do you cover them with a dark cloth?  They may be able to see light or people moving around and may think, "Hey, this is bogus!  Why am I covered while the rest of you are out there moving around?"

That screaming is the way they keep in touch...all birds that fly in flocks find ways to let the flock know where they are.  If they can't see each other, they call to each other.  Solution:  keep the cage in a centralized location where they can see just about everything that's going on in the house.

Good luck, and I hope this helps!
