Another baby parakeet question...

Question
Hi again,

I'm very happy to say that the babies are eating.. I'm using an eyedropper to feed them and it seems to be working. However, I have another problem... with the 3 that I left with the mom.. last night I saw her biting them again. At first I wasn't sure what she was doing because it seemed that she was just trying to get them underneath her. The oldest of them was bleeding. So I removed him and left the smaller ones with her. I see that she's feeding them, but at the same time I hear them crying so I think she's biting them.
The youngest baby can't even open his eyes yet, so I'm afraid if I take him out he won't survive. What should I do?  Isn't it strange that she's feeding them and attacking them at the same time. What's going on?

One final thing - the babies that I'm hand feeding have black beaks (the tips).. is this normal?

Thank you so much for your help. You're wonderful.

Veronica

Answer
Hi there,

I am so glad that you are doing well with them. First time too. Pat on the back.

Baby birds make allot of noise, and for a first time mum, this may be worrying her. So take them all out for now if she is still biting. Leave the really little one in as long as you can so it keeps warm and keep a close eye. The really small one will need allot more care, but as long as eyes are open and feathers there, you will be able to hand rear and not need an incubating unit. Take the smallest out if you are worried and give it a go, keeping in mind that they will need to be warm.
