Question
hello,
i will be moving about two hours away from where I currently live. i have three cockatiels that I am taking with me. do you have any suggestions on how I can make this long drive easier for them?

Thank You,
Karla

Answer
HI Karla,

I really wouldn't worry too much about your birds... I've taken my birds on vacation with me (and sometimes they've had to stay on the road with us for 10 to 12 hours at a time).

Just make sure that there is nothing hanging in their cage that might swing back and forth while you are driving. Make sure to get smaller cages (or a travel carrier), so that they won't fall a great distance if they loose their footing on their perch. Provide them with apples and/or oranges (or even some leafy greens) that have high water content. (or a water bottle works well too)... instead of having an open water dish, where the water might spill out.

If needed, your birds should be able to even go two hours without food or water.

Here is an article about traveling with your birds that should be able to give you even more tips/hints:

I hope this helps. :)
