Cockatiel stopped singing

Question
QUESTION: It has been almost a year it seems since my 9 year old male has sang.  What can be the problem.  He still squeals for food and when he wants the light out, etc. and he says "pretty bird".  He is a grey with the yellow head and orange cheeks.  He eats and otherwise is healthy.

ANSWER: Hello Theresa and thank you for your post.
Does he whistle?  Both of my male Cockatiels are Gray, and they do not sing, however, they do whistle melodically, and very prety tunes I might add (even the one that whistles "Low Rider" by WAR...lol).
He could be bored.  Try changing his toys around in his cage, or get him a few new ones to play with.
Also, spend more time with him than you already do.  He might be lonely.  As long as he is talking and acting normal, I wouldn't worry too much about it.  You can try teaching him some songs to whistle.

Good luck and God Bless.

QUESTION: No, he stopped whistling also.  Just squeals when he wants something and occasional pretty bird.  I have tried talking to him a lot more and I spend a lot of time with him.  One thing I noticed is that we haven't had many birds outside making noises this summer like we use to, its a puzzle. Thanks, if you have any other input please let me know.

Answer
Hello again Theresa.
I do not usually recommend this, I usually don't believe in it, but try giving your bird a mirror and see if he perks up a bit.  It is possible that he is lonely.  If he reacts in a good way to the mirror, then you might want to consider getting him some company.
I wish I could think of something else to tell you to do.

God Bless.
