Question
how do you clip a cockatiels nails and are their nails suppose to bleed a little and if so how much.

Answer
Hello April and thank you for your question.  This is one that is not asked very much.

Take your cockatiel and gently wrap it up in a towel so that you can get to it's feet.  Flip it upside down and gently, with a pair of  nail trimming scissors, or nail clippers take one toe at a time and clip the very tip of the nail.  There is usually a little notch at the very tip of the nail.  Do not clip the nail past that or the nail will bleed.
No, their nails are not supposed to bleed at all.  It would be like you clipping your own nails past the quick and causing your nail to bleed.
If you do get a nail to bleed, take some all purpose flour and pack that nail with it.  That will stop the bleeding.

Good luck and God bless.
