Question
I just got my moms cockatiel, who she has had several years, which never bonded and my Mom rarely let her out to fly and Mom fussed at the bird. I always complained about this to Mom b ut to no avail. Finally Mom gave me the bird but she is so afraid of humans and I cant get close to her & she runs and squeals if anyone comes close to her. We have a Jenday conure who can't live without constant human interaction and demands it from allof us. Will this cockatiel ever trust humans and what can i do to get her to bond to us? HELP
I really want her to bond to us ,like the jenday.

Answer
The imprinting like it has done with the jenday happens on a very young age. In short the cockatiel thinks that is a bird and it should be afread of humans. It is wild in our eyes. And the jenday is tame and thinks that it is a human or that humans are an other kind of bird. It will take a lot of time and effort to reverse the process. I'm mean from wild to tame. They say that from tame to wild is possible, but also that process is not easy.

So I'm sorry, I can't answer your question as you would like.
