laying eggs

Hi my parakeets have mated a couple times and my female parakeet goes into her nesting box alot but she hasn't made any nest. So i put a (ready made nest) in her house, but she just takes it all apart and throws it out of her box, and just a few minutes ago i found an egg laying on the ground. What should i do?

Hello budgies dont make nests a simple hollowed in the bottom of a nesting box is all they need and want and also all nest boxes have a hollow in thw bottom already to keep the eggs in place, by putting something strange into her nest you made her dislike it and confused her to the point of laying the egg on the floor...you can NOT remove the egg from the floor because if you put it in the nesting box she will Not sit on it. Eggs can and do hatch on the cage floor and in food cups alot of the time just you will have to spot clean around her nest area and not disturb her.
