is this behavior normal?

Question
We adopted a cockateil around X-mas.  She is about 2 years old.  Recently she has stopped singing and is losing feathers.  She is eating fine, drinking fine and her droppings look the same.  Is this normal behavior?  She was laying eggs and has stopped doing this also.

Thanks, Donna

Answer
Hello Donna and thank you for your post.
She might be getting ready to lay more eggs, and this is a time of the year that birds do their molting (my home is covered in so many feathers).  Molting is very hard on a bird's system (it's simular to menstrual time for women, with the fatigue and just generally feeling blah).
Be sure to give your friend some Avian Vitamins.  This will help her to feeling better.  If she doesn't go back to singing in about a week, or if she starts acting not right(lethargic, not eating/drinking, sitting with her feathers puffed for long periods of time)then get her into a Certified Avian or Exotic Animal Vet right away as there is a problem that only a vet can determine and correct.

Good luck and God Bless.
