Question
I need to know what food not to feed my African Grays. I have 2 of them. I heard that avacodos and chocolate..exc... can kill them. We have a male and female. I got the female first I have had her for 22 years and she is very intelligant. She is solid Gray no color on her tail. My male I have had for 1 1/2 years. I think he was neglected but he has a maroon tail and does not talk at all very nervous, bites, scared and hates the female bird. Well they hate eachother how do I tame him? and get them to mate? And there cages are right next to eachother just to let you know ok. Please help me, I love them but I wish my male loved me  Thanks for your time! Christina

Answer
Hello Christina and thank you for your question.

As far as their diets go, you have heard correctly.  The foods to NOT feed them are as follows:
Chocolate
Avacodos
Onions
Caffine of any sort, including, but not limited to coffee, tea, and so on.

The above are very toxic to a bird.

If the two do not like each other, then do not push the issue.  If you do try to get them to mate, then they may kill each other.
The male sounds like he may have been neglected.  Unfortunately he may nevr come around, but try to be patient and just love him.  Just keep working with him and handling him.  Hopefully he will grow to love you like you want to.

I hope this helps.

Good luck and God Bless.
