My cockatiels

Question
Hi,
I have three cockatiels, 2 females and 1 male I believe. One female and the male don't get along, but the other female and the male love each other. One day, they were mating and preening each other and there still haven't been eggs. How long after the birds mate are they supposed to have eggs? And also, how long does it take for the female to lay eggs? I have put up a nesting box, also. Thanks!

                      Sincerely,

Answer
Hello Astrid and thank you for your post.
If the one female and the male do not get along, then you might have to separate her from the other two as there might be some serious fighting.
After mating, the female will usually show signs of wanting to lay eggs after about a week or so (at least that's the time frame of my females).  When she does start laying eggs, she will lay one every other day for about a week, then it takes 21-28 days for them to hatch.
The nesting box is good.  This will entice the bonded pair to use it for laying the eggs and rearing the chicks.

Good luck and God Bless.
