Question
Hello! I have a male ringneck dove and he constantly makes noise.  Can I get him a female? Will that help him not to be so noisie?  And I also want to know what i should be feeding him besides dove seed and gravel.  I give him a large parrot feeder with some warm water in it and let him bathe in it once a week.  And when he is finished I take it out and leave it out till next time.  I let him out to fly as often as I can in the house and flys to me and my husband and lands on our heads.  He is quite the bird. I don't know much about doves and i want to know that im taking the best care possible.  Should I get a female or not.  Should I put them together for a while and then seporate or should I just let it be.  Me and my husband both work and we don't want baby birds to deal with we just want our bird to be happy.  Thank so much for listing.  I hope that u can answer my questions and help me thanks.

Answer
Hello Deborah & thank you for your questions,

Getting him a female would maek him very happy but he will only coo more during courtship, even if the female is in a differnet cage he'd still coo and bow and try to get her to like him lol. Male ring neck doves do tend to be fairly noisey.... they do coo alot ;). Dove seed & gravel doesnt make a great diet, I reccomend adding some canary or finch pellets to his diet as well as some fresh fruit & vegetables. Spray millet makes a great treat once a week or so because it is fatty, It comes on a sort of twig it looks like I guess what a lilic would look like with seeds instead of petals lol. Alsao when you brign a second bird into teh picture of a formaly single bird household teh first bird changes... he will no longer wish to come out adn play wtih you he will noly want his mate and you will no longer have your "pet" only two nosiey display birds. Letting him out daily is a great idea it helps pervent bordem & promots exercise therefore pervents him gaining extra weight. You can offer him some budgie toys when he's out of his cage, he may peck at them and will at lest have something to do from time to time, you can put some toys in his cage just be sure he can't get stuck in them or otherwire harm himself. Bells & mirrors are loved by doves.... mind you he will probly sing to his reflection, in any case you could just get him a bell on a chain to bat around with his beck. I hope this has helped you out at lest a little, if you have any more questions feel free to ask, I'd be more then happy to help.
