female budgie fighting new male

Hello,

I have a female budgie since a year and a half or so. She is friendly, used to human company, but is sometimes "bitty" and capricious. Her wings aren't trimed because we let her fly around the house.

Since we are not as much home as before, we just got a young hand feeded male to keep her company.  He is already very tame and isn't scared at all of us and the female budgie.

The problem is that the female is very agressive towards him.  She gets into fighting with him, and since his wings are trimed, he falls to the bottom of the cage.  He is very quiet and when he makes a small noise, she gets over to fight.

I've putted her in her old cage near the other cage because I was afraid that one of them could get hurt.

I haven't had the male for long, and i was wondering if the behavior of the female was normal, and if it would eventually stop so they could at least get along to live in the same cage?
Is she too accomodate to human ?

Hello Elisabeth & thank you for your questions.

Unforunitly females are very aggressive toward any other budgie unless they were brought up with them. And since your hasnt seen another budgie for over a year she would be very aggressive towards the young male. I deffinitly reccomend placing him in a seprate cage until they are ok with each others company. I reccomend a meeting outside of there cages perhaps on a counter top or the back of the couch.... perferbily not there cage tops she may think he's inturding on her property. Just be sure to give it time... she may or may not accept him... most likely she will with time however.... but if she is still behaving this way after a weke or two of out of cage meeting they should not be expected to live together. No bird is "too" used to human company to spend time with others of the speices. Offer spray millet and toys while there meeting out of cage it may help distract them from fighting. Good luck.
